The chronic stress is becoming a pandemic in today’s corporate world. More than one out of three people in Switzerland reported being experiencing chronic stress according to a study done by SECO in 2010. This number is only expected to grow as more and more people report feeling stress at work. The societal cost of stress in Switzerland is estimated at 6 billion Swiss francs and a large part of this amount is borne directly by companies. Conversely, it is estimated that for an annual salary of $ 100,000 in the United States, a US employer can save $ 22,000 per employee each year through effective burnout reduction programs (Aikens et al., 2014).
Many research and studies have shown that regular practice of mindfulness is effective in decreasing the present stress and builds resilience. Mindfulness is being aware of what’s happening in the present moment in the mind, body and external environment, free of judgment while being curious and empathetic. Mindfulness is not a substitute for any medical intervention but it constitutes an effective and complementary way.
At present, chronic stress and burnout have become prevalent in the workplace, costing millions of francs in lost productivity and absenteeism. Mindfulness is being widely used to promote emotional and physical well-being and it is proven to be an effective way of combating the pandemic of burnout. This workshop aims to introduce the concept and practice of Mindfulness adapted to the working environment. It offers exercises easy to learn and use.
